Turkish budget airline AJet to start Syria flights on June 16

Must read

Turkey’s low-cost AJet airline, a subsidiary of national carrier Turkish Airlines, will start flights to Syria from June 16, the transport minister announced on Wednesday.

Flights to Damascus from Sabiha Gokcen Airport on İstanbul’s Asian side will begin on June 16 and a day later from Ankara’s Esenboğa Airport, Abdülkadir Uraloğlu posted on X.

Turkish Airlines already began flights to Damascus in January, six weeks after the toppling of Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad.

It had halted operations in 2012 due to the civil war in Syria.

AJet flights from Ankara will operate three days a week, and four days a week from İstanbul, according to the minister.

“Starting in July, we will increase the flights to seven days a week from İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport to Damascus,” he said.

Syrian Airlines, for its part, will begin operating flights to İstanbul from June 10, it announced this week.
